Parable: A short story or illustration used by Jesus to convey spiritual, moral, or religious truths.

Matthew 13:33 CSB – He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and mixed into fifty pounds of flour until all of it was leavened.”

Kingdom of Heaven
The now and not-yet reign and rule of our sovereign God, which is in part a present reality that has been ushered in by Jesus but also our future hope that will be fully realized when God’s rule and reign is perfectly established in all of creation.

Matthew 13:33a CSB – He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven…

OBSERVATION:
Leaven is a catalyst that can radically transform the very nature of the dough.

SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLE:
The Gospel is a catalyst that can radically transform the the very nature of a person’s soul.

APPLICATION for the Non-Christian:
Repent. Believe. Give your life to Christ today. Today can be the day of salvation for you.

Matthew 13:33 CSB – He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and mixed into fifty pounds of flour until all of it was leavened.”

OBSERVATION:
The leaven requires a second type of catalyst in order to be thoroughly mixed in to the dough: the woman in the story.

SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLE:
The Gospel requires a second type of catalyst in order to be thoroughly “mixed in” to the world: us.

God COMMANDS us to mix it up:

Matthew 28:18-20 CSB – Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

God tells us WHERE to mix it up:

Acts 1:8 CSB – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

God tells us HOW to mix it up:

2 Timothy 2:2 CSB – What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

God has called us to invest our lives in helping others discover the transformative power of the Gospel — by his power — starting where we are and spreading beyond, by making disciples who will make disciples.

APPLICATION for the Christian:
Mix it up.
